The Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus was launched in China way back in 2016. It shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Last year, the Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus received an unofficial port of Android Oreo. Now it’s getting the official update. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition is not nearly as old, but it’s getting an update too, and it’s even tastier: Android Pie.
The Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus can now enjoy many of the Android 8.0 features we’ve seen for a while. Battery life should be slightly improved, security updates and fixes are big. and overall speed will see an uptick. Xiaomi’s changelog simply notes “Improved system stability.”
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition, on the other hand, is getting the latest and greats Android has to offer. Some of the included features in this update are HDR videos in YouTube and Google Play Movies, improved performance for things like app installation, more controls for how the notch integrated with the status bar, and improved battery life.
The download links for both recovery ROMs are available in the chart below. Since these are recovery ROMs, they can be sideloaded in the system updater app. There’s no need to have an unlocked bootloader and use TWRP.
Devices | Recovery ROM |
---|---|
Xiaomi Mi 8 EE “ursa” (Android 9.0) | Recovery ROM |
Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus “natrium” (Android 8.0) | Recovery ROM |
