Last week, Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) as the successor to the Galaxy A7 (2017). This week, the company also made the Samsung Galaxy J6+ and the Samsung Galaxy J4+ official in India. Yesterday, it then brought the Galaxy A7 (2018) to India at a starting price tag of ₹23,990. The new Galaxy J and Galaxy A series phones are Samsung’s new contenders for the budget and mid-range price segments. In terms of specifications, it should be noted that Samsung is still lagging behind, as the use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 in the Galaxy J4+ and the Galaxy J6+ is inexcusable at their price range. However, the company may hope to differentiate its phones in another way: by launching accessories such as “Gradation Covers.”
A report by GalaxyClub states that the company will soon release “Gradation Covers” for the recently launched Galaxy A7 (2018), Galaxy J4+, and the Galaxy J6+. Official images are not available yet, but the “Gradation Covers” name is enough to signify that Samsung wants to join the gradient colors design trend that has recently been popularized by the likes of Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo.
It can be expected that the Gradation Covers will add a gradient effect to the Galaxy phones. According to GalaxyClub, the covers are probably partially transparent silicone covers with a color gradient that is supposed to “change” the color of the phone depending on the viewing angle. As a concept, it’s similar to the gradient colors offered by device makers, such as Twilight for the Huawei P20 series, gradient colors for the OPPO R17, and more. The difference here is that unlike Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo, Samsung will have the gradient effect through a cover for the aforementioned Galaxy phones instead of offering separate color variants.
Samsung is said to launch a gradient color option for the Samsung Galaxy A9 Star in China (which is known as the Galaxy A8 Star in India), and it may be that the company is experimenting with offering gradient colors for some of its upcoming phones as well.
The launch of the Gradation Covers for the Galaxy A7 (2018), Galaxy J6+, and the Galaxy J4+ is unknown for now. Samsung will hold an event in Malaysia on October 11 to announce a new smartphone, so it’s possible that the covers may be officially announced there.
