Razer Phone gets an update to “Android Oreo MR2”

If there’s something the Razer Phone is exceptional at, it’s software. The Nextbit purchase brought the software team on board to Razer too, and as such, the Razer Phone shipped out of the box with nearly stock Android 7.1 Nougat, serving as a compelling experience for enthusiasts. It was further complemented with gamer oriented improvements and features, as well as Nova Launcher as the default launcher. This experience was further refined by consistent software updates: the official Android 8.1 Oreo update brought a slew of improvements to the table, including official Project Treble support and many more things. Subsequent updates have then worked on some of the phone’s shortcomings, including the camera. Now, a new update is now rolling out to the Razer Phone, which the company is dubbing as “Android Oreo MR2.”

We do know that the update includes the July security patches (but not the latest September security patches) as well as other undisclosed bug fixes and improvements, probably having to do with security/performance. Whatever the update brings exactly, it doesn’t hurt you to upgrade, so we recommend taking it whenever you have the chance. The update is now rolling out over-the-air in waves to Razer Phone owners, so if you haven’t received it yet, keep your eyes open for the update coming soon to your device. The Razer Phone is soon to be succeeded by the Razer Phone 2, but the original still has plenty of time to live. As always, we’ll keep you informed on every update that comes out.
