ZTE is an interesting position right now. After concluding a lengthy legal saga, the company can now operate and sell smartphones. It re-entered the Android flagship smartphone space by launching the ZTE Axon 9 Pro at IFA last month. While the Axon 9 Pro is a fairly standard 2018 Android flagship, it’s not the only smartphone in ZTE’s device portfolio. The company has a broad device portfolio, ranging from the Axon flagship series to the Blade series of budget phones. ZTE also has a subsidiary, Nubia, that sells its own Nubia-branded phones. Now, the Nubia Z18S has received TENAA certification, while the ZTE Blade X2 Max has been certified on the FCC.
The Nubia Z18S will be a Nubia-branded flagship smartphone. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, just like the ZTE Axon 9 Pro and the Nubia Z18 (which was announced earlier this month). It will have two RAM options: 6GB/8GB, paired with 64GB/128GB storage. Interestingly, it will have dual displays. The primary display will be a 6.26-inch Full HD+ (2280×1080) LCD, while there is a secondary 5.1-inch (1520×720) OLED display. It seems the secondary display will be placed on the back, reminiscent of the YotaPhone. Unlike the YotaPhone, however, the Nubia Z18S will have a full color OLED display instead of using an E-Ink display.
The Nubia Z18S will have a 24MP + 16MP rear cameras. The phone does not seem to have a front-facing camera. It will be powered by a 3,800mAh battery, and it will run Android 8.1 Oreo. Its dimensions will be 154.1 x 73.3 x 8.65 mm, and it will weigh 176 grams.
On the other hand, the ZTE Blade X2 Max is a budget phone. It will be the successor of the ZTE Blade X Max, which is sold by Cricket Wireless in the US. The ZTE Blade X2 Max was in the rumors since February, but this is the first time live photos of the phone have been released thanks to the certification.
The phone will have a 6.0-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, which means that it will have more screen area than 6-inch 18:9 displays. The rest of the specifications aren’t that great as the phone will have only 2GB of RAM and 32GB storage. The Blade X2 Max will have 16MP + 2MP rear cameras, and an 8MP front-facing camera. It will be powered by a 4,080mAh battery, and it will run Android 8.0 Oreo.
The Nubia Z18S and the ZTE Blade X2 Max will likely be launched in the coming weeks.
