Nokia 7 Plus gets another Android Pie beta before stable release

Nokia released the Nokia 7 Plus earlier this year in March and since then it’s been able to garner quite the following of fans. Nokia has been one of the few smartphone OEMs who has been working on their Android 9 Pie beta program for a while. They released Android P Beta 2 for the Nokia 7 Plus in June and that was followed up with Beta 3 just one month later. Owners have been happy to have had early access to these beta builds along the way, but it was said that the stable version of the update would be released this month. However, a fellow XDA forum member has just received a new OTA update that labels it Android 9 Pie Developer Preview (V3.190).

It’s admirable to see companies like Nokia pushing out beta builds of a new update that companies who rake in billions of dollars won’t even begin releasing to their flagship smartphones until months from now. We’ve seen this type of effort from other smaller companies like Essential who rolled out the September security update on the very day that Google announced it to the public. So those with the Nokia 7 Plus have been happy to see their OEM continuing to improve the Android 9 Pie beta updates. But it was supposed to end with the Android Pie Beta 4 update that was rolled out early last month.

It was last month when Mr. Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, told reporters at a media event in New Delhi that the stable release of Android 9 Pie would be made available for the Nokia 7 Plus in September. However, the Nokia 7 Plus just received a new Android 9 Pie beta update that includes Android’s September security patches. There are likely some other changes which have happened under the hood since the previous update was version 3.150, while this new one is version 3.190.

This new update was brought to our attention thanks to XDA Junior Member xincale yesterday afternoon. Now, we could be jumping the gun here and Nokia could still have a stable build of Android 9 Pie ready to be released for the Nokia 7 Plus this month. We still have over 2 weeks left in the month so we’ll just have to wait and see if Mr. Sarvikas’ claims at that New Delhi media event were accurate or if something pushed back the company’s schedule.
