Motorola Moto G5 Android Oreo update now rolling out in India

Motorola Moto G5

The Motorola Moto G5, like the rest of the Moto G series devices, is a really popular budget smartphone. Unfortunately, after Lenovo’s acquisition of Motorola, the company hasn’t been as great at rolling out updates to their devices. You can now only expect them to push only one major system update. But, it is what it is. The Android Oreo update has been long in the making for the Motorola Moto G5. XDA Junior Member A5hupnk on our forums states that the update rolled out for them in India. Previously, the update was only pushed to Mexico.

As we expected, Motorola skipped the Android 8.0 Oreo update and went straight with Android 8.1 Oreo. We hope they will offer at least one more major system update, as the Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5S, and the Moto G5S Plus are all capable of running Android Pie. If Motorola never rolls out the official Android Pie update, then at least you can rely on developers on our forums.

Motorola Moto G5 Android Oreo update

The Moto G5 launched with Android 7.o Nougat, and soak tests for the Android 8.1 Oreo update have been going for quite some time in Brazil. It’s not new for Lenovo/Motorola to roll out updates in waves for system updates. We don’t know the exact date when the update will be available in other regions. Based on the comments on our previous articles, we know that many users are eagerly waiting for the update. We’ll be sure to update you when we have something more to share. If you would rather not wait, stay subscribed to the Moto G5 forums on XDA as users may upload flashable images of the Android 8.1 Oreo update so you won’t have to wait for the OTA.
