In an era of borderless internet, it’s sometimes fair to be concerned about what your children are doing with their devices. Digital wellbeing is becoming mainstream as the biggest companies are devoting resources to make sure that you can always see how you use your device. Many of the popular applications are gaining the special mode for children to ensure that the little ones don’t see what they shouldn’t see. But, sometimes that’s not enough. As a parent, you may want to have more control over your child’s device.
That’s where Heimdall comes in, the application which is made by XDA Junior Member fr_ju. The name comes from the character you may recognize from Thor movies who can see through the Nine Realms. He can literally see everything in the universe. To clear the confusion from the beginning, this application will not help you do anything remotely to your child’s device. Heimdall must be installed on the device you want to control itself.
After that’s out of the way, you’ll be able to block the Play Store to prevent installing new apps, limit or block completely already installed applications, limit calls duration, always keep YouTube’s parental control enabled, and see the network activities of the little one. All of this comes in a free package. The paid version costs $9.49 if you buy the lifetime subscription. Otherwise, it’s $0.99 for a monthly subscription. The paid version lets you remotely check the location of the device and filter out the websites.
After installing the application on your children’s smartphone, you’ll need to set the 4-digit PIN to change the settings. You’ll also be prompted to set the application as the device admin so that the kids won’t be able to uninstall it. I personally think that all of the parents should be aware of what their kids are using their devices for. It’s for their own good, as parents always want the best for them. You can see the link for Heimdall below. The paid version is available as an in-app purchase.
