Since May, Xiaomi has been diligently releasing MIUI 10 China Alpha/Beta and MIUI 10 Global Beta ROMs for many devices. The latest version of the company’s user interface was announced for the Chinese market in May, while MIUI 10 Global was launched at the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 event in June. According to the roll-out schedule for the MIUI 10 Global Beta, Xiaomi will start rolling out MIUI 10 Global Stable updates in September, while the company continues to roll-out weekly updates for the Global Beta ROM.
Development for MIUI 10 China Stable has progressed at a faster pace, though. The two versions of MIUI differ in some important respects. Outside China, all Xiaomi devices come with MIUI 10 Global Stable that includes Google Play services and more device languages, while Xiaomi devices in China come with MIUI 10 China Stable that does not come with Google Play services. The language selection in MIUI 10 China is also limited, which means that for global users, the Global ROM is generally a better fit.
However, this doesn’t mean that users are barred from flashing China Stable ROMs on global devices. They can do that if they want to use MIUI 10 now instead of waiting for the Global Stable update to be rolled-out for their device.
Last week, Xiaomi rolled-out MIUI 10 China Stable for the Xiaomi Mi 6. Then, users in China began reporting that they were receiving the China Stable updates on their Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera (known as Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro in India; the two variants have the same device code-name), Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, and Xiaomi Mi Note 3.
Now, the MIUI 10 China Stable ROM is available for the Xiaomi Redmi S2 (known as the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 in India), Xiaomi Mi 5, and the Xiaomi Mi Mix. The China Stable ROM for the Redmi S2/Redmi Y2 is based on Android 8.1 Oreo, while the ROMs for the Mi 5 and the Mi Mix are based on Android 8.0 Oreo.
Users can download the respective recovery ROMs via the links below. The procedure to install them via TWRP can be read here. It’s also fair to expect other Xiaomi devices to receive the China Stable update soon. In terms of features, MIUI 10 comes with a new Recents app menu, single-camera portrait mode for many devices, and has many “AI” features.
