Google has been updating a lot of their apps with the new Material Theme refresh recently. Android Messages received the redesign on the 8th of August, then it was removed, and then it came back again. What’s more interesting with the new refresh is that it also includes a dark theme. Now, Google has decided to roll out the Material Theme refresh to the web version, too, which was launched not too long ago.
Activating the new interface on the web version requires updating the app on your phone first. You can install the update straight from the Play Store. But, as you may already know, Google loves staged rolled, so it may not be available for you. In that case, just download the APK file from APKMirror and install it manually.

As you can see from the screenshots above, it’s not a huge difference. Just some minor font and color tweaks along with a new “Start chat” button. Like the Android version of the application, Android Messages for Web also comes with a dark theme. I was unable to check the old dark theme design, but here’s the new one below. There’s no doubt that it looks much better.

Dark Theme
It looks like Google has finally decided to give all their products a consistent look. It took a while but better late than never. What do you think of Android Message’s new look on mobile and the web? Do you use the dark theme or light theme?
