OnePlus announces availability of Android P beta for the OnePlus 6

The OnePlus 6 will be launched globally on May 16th, and in India on May 17th. By now, we know most of its specifications, including the fact that it will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip, and up to 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. The design also isn’t a secret anymore. This leaves the software. OnePlus has now announced the availability of the newly released Android P Beta on the OnePlus 6.

The company states that it’s part of the “earliest group of manufacturers” working closely with Google to release their latest updates and features. It has also created Team FSE (fast, smooth, efficient) to help ensure that OnePlus devices offer the “fastest and smoothest user experience available.”

The announcement is a significant one for OnePlus, as the OnePlus 6 joins a select list of non-Google phones eligible for installing Android P beta. The company has been criticized in the past for not giving updates to older smartphones, but it has improved its standing in this area since the launch of the OnePlus 3. The OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3 received Android Oreo back in November. The OnePlus 5 received its Android Oreo update in December, and it was followed by the OnePlus 5T in January. Since then, the OnePlus 5T has received the stable Android 8.1 Oreo update.

OnePlus also states that it prioritizes pushing out Android security patch updates within two months of release.

“By empowering and trusting in our community we learned users want a fast, smooth, and clean user experience – something we call ‘burden-less’,” said Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus. “Beyond building the best possible Android phone, we work to provide more value to users by ensuring the smartphone experience is not dominated by bloatware and intrusive notifications. The creation of Team FSE (fast, smooth, efficient) helps create a recurring theme across all user reviews of OnePlus phone experiences as fast and smooth.”
