On April 19, Honor, a subsidiary of Huawei, launched the Honor 10 in China. The international launch for the device was set on May 15 in London, and at an event on Tuesday, Honor officially launched the Honor 10 in international markets.
The Honor 10 is Honor’s latest flagship phone, coming five months after the launch of the Honor View 10. In terms of design, it looks similar to the Huawei P20, but some specifications are different. Let’s take a deeper look at the device:

The Honor 10 has a 3D glass back with a nano-scale optical coating. The glass design is made of 15 layers of 3D glass on the back, which leads to the reflective colors. The design is branded as “Aurora Glass.” It looks similar to the Huawei P20 series. In terms of features, it has an IR blaster on the top of the device.
Interestingly, the Honor 10 has an industry first ultrasonic fingerprint sensor located under the glass, which allows users to use the sensor even when their fingers are wet. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the front of the device.
Other design details include thin size bezels, a display notch, and horizontally placed dual rear cameras.
It ships with EMUI 8.1 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo, just like the P20 series. The operating system includes the Easy Talk feature, which is said to reduce background noise in a windy environment during calls.
Display
The Honor 10 has a 5.84-inch Full HD+ (2280×1080) notched IPS LCD with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a 86 percent screen-tob-body ratio. The display has 2.5D glass. For reference, the Honor View 10 had a 6-inch Full HD+ (2160×1080) 18:9 IPS display without a notch. The Honor 10’s notch contains the earpiece, sensors, and the front-facing camera.
Performance
The Honor 10 is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 970 system-on-chip. The Soc has previously been used in the Honor View 10 along with the Huawei Mate 10 series and the Huawei P20/P20 Pro. It has four ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.36GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz, along with the Mali-G72MP12 GPU and a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). The phone’s CPU and GPU performance match the performance of last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, which means that it can’t go head-to-head with the newer Snapdragon 845.
The SoC is paired with 6GB of RAM with either 64GB or 128GB of storage. Unfortunately, there is no microSD card slot on the device.
Cameras
The Honor 10 features a new dual camera setup that is branded as “AI Camera.” As expected, the camera module doesn’t have Leica branding. The phone has a 16MP RGB camera with a f/1.8 aperture, PDAF and LED flash, and a 24MP monochrome camera with f/1.8 aperture. (The sensor and pixel size remain unknown for now.) Crucially, the camera does have “high quality” electronic image stabilization (EIS), unlike the Honor View 10. Optical image stabilization (OIS) is absent.
It can recognize 500+ scenarios in 22 categories in real-time. It can pinpoint the locations of various surrounding objects, such as the sky, plants, people, or waterfall, and identify their locations instantly. The feature is supported by the industry first “Semantic Image Segmentation” technology, which lets the phone apply scene-specific parameters to each photo in real-time.
The Honor 10 has a 24MP front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture. The camera supports 3D face recognition, optimizes facial details and detects over 100 facial points to ensure “pixel-level accuracy.” The front camera supports bokeh mode. It also has support for studio lighting effects in a range of lighting conditions.
Audio
The phone has a dedicated AK4376A audio processor to enable it to output 7.1 sound via the 3.5mm headphone jack for an immersive 7-channel sound experience.
Power and Connectivity
The Honor 10 is powered by a 3400mAh battery — the same size as the battery of the standard Huawei P20. It’s smaller than the 3750mAh battery of the Honor View 10, though. It has fast charging support via 5V/4.5A Huawei Super Charge. The company states that Super Charge will charge 50% of the battery in 25 minutes.
The phone comes with the usual connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C port (USB 2.0), and dual nano SIM slots. It does have a 3.5mm headphone jack, unlike the Huawei P20, which is a major plus. The phone does not have an IP rating.
Honor 10 – Pricing and availability
The Honor 10 comes in Phantom Blue, Phantom Green, Glacier Grey, and Midnight colors. The former two colors have a multi-tone tint that is similar to the Twilight color of the Huawei P20/P20 Pro.
In India, Honor will sell only a single variant of the phone, which will come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Honor 10 will cost Rs. 32,999 ($484) in India — which makes it Rs. 3000 more expensive than the Honor View 10.
In Europe, the phone will cost €399 for the 64GB storage variant and €449 for the 128GB storage variant. In the UK, it will be available for £400.
Finally, Honor stated that it continues to retain its position as the number one smartphone e-brand in China. The brand has achieved 100% growth in overseas markets since its inception. In India, Honor remains the fastest growing smartphone brand, which places it among the top five smartphone vendors in the country.
