Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 receives Android 8.1 Oreo unofficially via OmniROM

Custom ROMs and generally modifying your device are what we’re known for here at XDA. We’ve seen everything from a custom ROM being made available for a device without kernel source availability to devices receiving Project Treble compatibility such as on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. There are some extremely talented developers on our forums, all of whom are working to make our devices function better in some way. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 officially had its kernel sources released a few months back, and now has received an unofficial build of Android 8.1 Oreo via OmniROM from XDA Senior Member andr68rus.

For those unfamiliar, OmniROM is one of many custom ROMs that you can find on our forums. Like LineageOS, it’s a brand of sorts and can be found across a multitude of devices, such as on the OnePlus 5T. You can expect to see LED customization, lock screen customization and OmniSwitch, among the other huge amount of features available. OmniSwitch is a custom multitasking menu and is one of the things which makes OmniROM unique.

There aren’t a huge amount of issues present either, mainly relating to battery drain and VoLTE being lost after a reboot. Still, it’s a great first release especially considering the fact that currently, it is in beta, and the fact that Android 8.1 Oreo, let alone Android Oreo in general, is not available officially for the device.

Users can download the ROM and install it like any other ROM on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. You simply need to make sure your device is upgraded to the Android Oreo firmware before flashing, and then you should be good to go to finish the job in TWRP recovery. Just flash the ROM, the latest Google Apps for Android 8.1 Oreo and you’re done! Simply check out the download link below, and be sure to let us know what you think.

P.S. If you’re looking for Android Oreo on another Xiaomi device, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, Xiaomi Mi A1, and Xiaomi Mi 5 among others have ways to get an official or unofficial build on your device. Be sure to subscribe to the particular forum for your Xiaomi device!
