A few weeks ago, ASUS released the ZenUI 4.0 update for the ASUS ZenFone 4, and now, finally, the ZenFone 3 Max (ZC553kl) is also receiving the upgrade. The release notes are very short, encompassing nearly all of the changes under “upgrade to ZenUI 4.0”. Thankfully, ASUS has released what the new features actually are in ZenUI 4.0. Users should expect to receive the upgrade over the next few weeks via an over-the-air (OTA) upgrade. You can also force the upgrade instead of waiting for your turn in the rollout, by simply navigating to Settings > About > System update.
Check out the changelog below.
Again, it’s not a very comprehensive changelog. The list of features added with ZenUI 4.0 includes a new, cleaner UI, an AI-powered gallery application, a wallpaper slideshow, animated system themes, safety features such as tracking and SOS signalling, Game Genie (an application for looking up game walkthroughs, speeding up your device etc), app duplication and a new page saver to later read articles or snippets which are synced to your Google Drive.
The ZenFone 3 Max, for those unfamiliar with the device, is a low-end ASUS device which is rocking a Snapdragon 430 and 2, 3 or 4GB of RAM depending on the variant you choose. No matter the variant, it has 32GB of storage and a dual SIM setup where one of the slots can instead be used for a microSD card. It also has a 4,100mAh battery, and finally is confirmed to be receiving Android Oreo sometime in the first half of 2018, along with all other devices in the ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 4 lines. The device launched with Android Marshmallow and ASUS deserve commendation for continually updating the device, even though it very easily could have fallen into the low-end “curse” and never received another update after launch. If you receive the upgrade to ZenUI 4.0, let us know what you think!
