Specifications of the Huawei Mate 10 ‘Alps’ and ‘Blanc’ Variants Leaked

Banking on the slouch in iPhone sales ahead of the new iPhone launch, Huawei recently overtook Apple to become the second largest smartphone brand in the world. While this highpoint may be temporary in nature owing to the much awaited iPhone 8 lineup, Huawei is still moving on ahead with complete confidence as it plans to launch its Mate 10 flagship smartphone.

The Mate 10 set of phones will be the flagship lineup for Huawei for the second half of 2017, competing against the likes of the LG V30, the Samsung Galaxy Note8, and the upcoming Google Pixel 2 XL. Huawei’s premium products for late 2017 include at least three handsets: codenamed Blanc, Alps and Marcel as per a report originating from Evan ‘evleaks’ Blass through his VentureBeat publication.

Blanc

The Huawei Blanc, also likely to be known as the Mate 10 Pro, will feature the strongest set of specifications among the newly released Huawei devices. Blanc will feature the new Kirin 970 SoC, 6GB of RAM it’ll arrive with either 64GB or 128GB of storage. Blanc will also sport a 5.99″ IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2880 x 1440, indicating a 18:9 (2:1) aspect ratio. The display will also reportedly feature “edge-to-edge” properties that will give it a high screen-to-body ratio. The device is also said to be 7.5mm thin, but will still pack a 4000 mAh battery, which should complement the large screen adequately.

It will iterate upon the dual rear camera system that is now deemed standard on Huawei’s flagships. As expected, the dual camera setup is once again co-developed with Leica, with the sensors being rated at 12MP and 20MP and coming with OIS. Interestingly, the Huawei Blanc will go neck-to-neck against the LG V30’s f/1.6 aperture lenses. The front camera on the device is said to be an 8MP shooter.

The Blanc’s hardware leaves no stone unturned, as it will reportedly come with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. The device will also come with a LTE Cat.16 modem, as well as Android 8.0 Oreo skinned with Huawei’s EMUI 6.0 UX. Huawei’s better-specced flagship will tentatively ship in December 2017.

Alps

While the Blanc will be the phone to look forward to, the Alps will also pack a punch. This device will feature a 5.88″ IPS LCD display in a 16:9 aspect ratio and 2560 x 1440 resolution. It will share a few key characteristics with Blanc, namely the Kirin 970 SoC, the 4,000 mAh battery and the camera setup.

What will be different on the Alps is the lower 4GB of RAM as well as lack of 128GB as a storage option. The phone will also feature a slower LTE Cat. 12 modem. It will also be thicker at 8.23mm to accommodate the large battery at a smaller screen diagonal, but you won’t find us complaining about a phone being marginally thicker these days for this reason.

The Huawei Alps is expected to debut on October 16, 2017, and it should be shipping later in that month.
