In early 2014, Google applied for a patent titled “Lightguide With Multiple In-Coupling Holograms For Head Wearable Display” and now it has officially gone through. This patent details a way for Google to use holograms (or augmented reality) in their Google Glass/Project Aura headset sometime in the future. Some are speculating that this will be how Google makes use of their investment into Magic Leap’s AR content.
