While the 6GB+128GB variant of Honor View20 comes for 569 euros (~$640, ₹37,999), the 8GB+256GB variant is priced at 649 euro (~$730, ₹45,999). Samsung, on the other hand, did not bother to launch a 6GB RAM variant of the Galaxy S10 and the 8GB variants come with 128GB and 256GB storage options priced at 899 euros ($899 euros,₹66,900) and $1149 (1149 euros, ₹84,900) respectively. Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 private DNS app is getting a free VPN

Web security company, Cloudflare turned its focus towards the public with the announcement of its DNS resolver service, 1.1.1.1, to users worldwide on April 1st (4.1), last year. Then on November 11th (11.11), it launched an app on Android and iOS so that users don’t have to manually configure their DNS settings on their smartphones. Cloudflare has always emphasized that it does not log any of your browsing data and its DNS resolver makes your internet connections faster. Now, it is extending the same philosophy and building a VPN service called Warp in the 1.1.1.1 apps on Android and iOS.

In a blog post, Cloudflare’s CEO Matt Prince highlighted major issues with other VPN services. He noted that VPNs typically reduce the internet speeds and devour a lot of battery. He assured that Warp will tackle these issues and ensure that security of your internet connection does not cost you in terms of higher data consumption. Prince wrote, “the worse your network connection the better Warp should make your performance.” He also noted that Warp will be built keeping mobile connections in mind and when data is not being encrypted, the service will “cache and compress content” to ensure faster loading.

Cloudflare’s Warp is built around WireGuard, an improved and open-source VPN protocol that is faster, more efficient and more reliable than conventional VPN protocols. It uses Cloudflare’s Argo technology to make connections faster and more reliable. Prince notes that while Warp will be available for free and included within the 1.1.1.1 app, the company will also offer a premium version called Warp+. With Warp+, users will able to secure their internet connection at an affordable cost without slowing down the speed of their connections.

Warp is yet to be released but Cloudflare wanted to send out information on the iconic date of April 1st (4.1). There is still some work left to be done, and Cloudflare is currently inviting users to show their interest for its VPN service. Users interested in the service can enroll for a spot in the waitlist from the 1.1.1.1 app on their Android or iOS devices.

Lastly, Cloudflare has announced that the desktop versions of its DNS resolver app with Warp built-in will are also “coming soon“.

Nokia X71 with punch-hole display and 48MP rear camera launched in Taiwan

At an event in Taiwan, HMD Global has announced the newest addition to the Nokia smartphone lineup. Meet the new Nokia X71, the first Nokia-branded smartphone with a punch hole display, as well as a 48MP rear camera.

The Nokia X71 comes in a glass-sandwich design with an aluminum mid-frame, a design choice that continues to retain its popularity in the premium segment of the market. There are copper accents across the device, which lend the phone some character. The front of the device is impressive with a 6.39″ FHD+ display and a 93% screen-to-body ratio. As mentioned before, this is the first Nokia device with a punch hole display. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup, the camera cutout on this device is on the left.

The camera setup on the device continues to be impressive on paper, as the back of the device houses a triple camera setup. The primary sensor is a 48MP shooter, though it is unknown if this is a Sony IMX586 sensor or a Samsung GM1 sensor. This is accompanied by a 8MP sensor with an ultra wide angle lens, which is something we are seeing on more and more devices. The 5MP depth sensor adds on portrait mode capabilities.

On the inside, the Nokia X71 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, which is a decent SoC, but not the latest mid-range SoC from Qualcomm. Depending on how it is implemented, the SoC may take a few seconds to process the 48MP shots from the rear camera. Thankfully, Nokia has blessed the device with ample RAM and storage, as well as other standard features like a USB Type-C port and a 3,500 mAh battery with fast charging capabilities. The phone also has the signature LED notification beneath the power button, and it also has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Nokia X71 comes with Android 9 Pie out of the box.

The device has been launched in Taiwan in Black color, for a price of NT$11,900, which comes out to be ~$385. It is currently unknown if and when this device will reach other international markets.

New CAD renders allegedly show Motorola’s first smartphone with triple rear cameras

Lenovo-owned Motorola has been pegging its hope on mid-range devices to bounce back from troubling times. Once a brand to reckon with, Motorola is no longer counted among the leading smartphone brands, especially in the world’s biggest markets such as China and India. Despite that, it has been aggressive in its approach and recently launched the Moto G7 series in Brazil. A few weeks later, Moto G7 Power arrived in India followed by Motorola One and Moto G7. While the other devices in the Moto G7 series are yet to be announced in markets other than Brazil, the company has reportedly been prepping up for its next Android device – the Motorola One Vision. There’s another Android One device in the making and this one could be Motorola’s first smartphone with triple cameras on the rear.

Based on 3D CAD renders shared by reputed leaker OnLeaks, the company is working on the successor to Motorola One Power (Chinese variant without stock Android is known as Motorola P30 Note). Besides a triple rear camera setup, this alleged smartphone will be the second smartphone from the company with a hole punch display, after the supposed Motorola P40 or Motorola One Vision. However, that also depends on which of the two smartphones launches first.

As per Pricebaba, which collaborated with OnLeaks for this information, the device will measure 160.1 x 71.2 x 9.1mm while the camera bump will add 0.6mm to the thickness. The primary sensor on the back will have a 12MP resolution, just like the Motorola One Vision. Whether Motorola will market this as a 48MP sensor too and make use of QCFA (Quad Color Filter Array) for better detailing and higher exposure in images or not is something yet to be confirmed. Furthermore, the device is expected to boast of the same 6.2-inch display as the One Vision.

We’re yet to learn whether Motorola will use a Samsung’s Exynos chipset, as tipped for the One Vision, or instead go for a Qualcomm Snapdragon. Meanwhile, the uncanny similarities in terms of the design substantiate the likeliness of this triple camera smartphone to be related to the Motorola One Vision in some way or the other.

Will the smartphone be named “Motorola One Vision Plus” for the extra camera or the “One Vision Power” for its relation with last year’s One Power? We dare not say anything with certainty before we have concrete details – as in the case of the One Vision – but we certainly wish this is the case.

Samsung Galaxy S10 will get monthly updates while the Galaxy S7 now gets quarterly updates

Seven years after it overtook Nokia, Samsung still retains its lead as the world’s largest smartphone OEM. Despite always being a hardware stalwart, Samsung took longer than expected to bring its software experience on par with others, but this situation is improving slowly. A bunch of Samsung smartphones – including Galaxy S8/S8+, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S9/S9+, Galaxy Note 9 – have already received the cleaner and improved One UI interface based on Android 9 Pie while 24 other mid-range devices will be getting it later during the year. For devices that will not be getting to taste Pie, Samsung is assuring regular security updates. In the meantime, it has pushed older devices such as the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge off its monthly update bandwagon and is moving them to a quarterly update schedule.

In its latest security roadmap, Samsung has noted that three years after their launch, the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge will continue to receive security updates. The two devices have already received March’s Google Security patch. But from now on, the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge will be getting a new security update only once in three months instead of one each month previously. Meanwhile, the latest Galaxy S10 lineup, Galaxy S7 Active, Galaxy S8/S8+/S8 Active, Galaxy S9/S9+, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy Note 9 as well as the Galaxy A5 (2017) and the Galaxy A8(2018) will continue to receive monthly security updates.

Samsung has already excluded the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge from the list of its devices eligible for the Android Pie update, but the promise of security updates for at least another year can still be heart-warming for owners of these older Samsung flagships. Meanwhile, if you own either the Galaxy S7 or the S7 Edge and want to try out the latest One UI, senior XDA member Kill-Switch has ported the One UI ROM from a Galaxy Note FE for the Exynos variants of the two devices. The ROM is pretty stable and supports the features like the refreshed interface, system-wide dark theme, apps edge, update camera app, and the latest compliant app for the inbuilt heart-rate monitor.
