Korean smartphone brand LG has disappointingly been slow at providing major Android system upgrades when compared to its competitors. The early 2017 LG G6 launched with Android 7.0 Nougat on board, and while it did receive an update to Android 8.0 Oreo, it hasn’t yet received Android 9 Pie. According to LG’s Android Pie update roadmap, the G6 is expected to receive the update in Q3, meaning within the next 3 months. Now, we’ve learned that XDA Junior Member ewq2465 shared information on our forums about the upcoming Android 9 Pie build for the European LG G6. Then, Redditors on /r/LGG6 flashed the build and found out it’s a beta Pie build for the H870 European LG G6.
The build number is PKQ1.190421.001 and it comes with the May 1, 2019 security patch level. The author of the thread on Reddit states that the build is very stable, with no noticeable crashes or bugs. This build comes with all Android 9 Pie bells and whistles, like the two-button gesture navigation. There’s also a revamped screen recorder and dual apps feature.

If you want to try out this early Android Pie beta on your European LG G6, there are a couple of methods. First, confirm that you have the H870 model and that you’re on the latest Android Oreo-based update. If you have an unlocked bootloader, you can download the OTA file and simply flash it via TWRP. If not, you can use LGUP to sideload the UP file. You can follow this guide to learn more.

The exact release date for the stable release is currently unknown. Nonetheless, it looks like the update is nearly ready, as the build seems pretty stable already. So far, the LG G7 ThinQ, LG G7 One, and LG V40 ThinQ have received the Pie update from LG.
