Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet (7th gen) has been rooted

Amazon recently launched a new version of the Fire HD 8 with an HD display, Amazon Alexa integration, and a new version of Fire OS based on Android Nougat. However, the developers in our forums have been hard at work rooting the previous generation of Fire HD 8 tablets. They finally hit paydirt and it’s now possible to root this affordable tablet.

The folks behind this root method warn that it’s not easy, but it is easy all things considered. Their goal was to just get one root method working so they can help make development easier in the future. Work started back in January and over 15 forum members contributed to the project. Here is the general procedure for achieving root on the Fire HD 8 (7th gen):

  1. Preparation – Gather the materials, build an SD card adapter, etc.
  2. Disassembly – Take the tablet apart and turn over the motherboard
  3. Hardware Modifications – Soldering the SD card adapter to the board
  4. Communication – Getting the device to talk to your computer
  5. Software Modifications – Installing SuperSU by hand
  6. Testing and Cleanup – Checking for root, removing the SD card adapter, reassembly.

If that sounds like something you’re willing to do, the full instructions can be found at the link below. As with any hardware modifications, there is a chance of major damage to the device. Make sure you are comfortable with this sort of thing before committing to it.How to Root the Amazon Fire HD 8 (7th gen)
