Over the last year, OnePlus has significantly improved its reputation with respect to updates. The company committed to supporting new phone releases with two years of Android software updates and three years of security updates earlier this year. The OnePlus 6 was one of the first phones to receive an official Android Pie beta build in the form of OxygenOS Open Beta 1, and it was one of the first phones to receive a stable Android Pie update in the form of OxygenOS 9.0. After releasing OxygenOS Open Beta 3 for the OnePlus 6 earlier this month with a new Google Assistant gesture, OnePlus has now released OxygenOS Open Beta 4.
The changelog mentions that the update has fixed the touch latency issue. Touch latency issues haven’t been a widely reported issue of the OnePlus 6 so far, but it’s good to see the company addressing (or attempting to address) the issue for affected users. The update also brings “optimized standby power consumption.”
Other changes include “an optimized UI” for the speed dial and calling interface. OnePlus has also fixed the issue which resulted in the phone accidentally answering the second call while using answer calls by gesture.
The OxygenOS Open Beta 4 update brings an updated Community 2.2.0 app, where community notices have been added as a feature. The app now has a new feed for following community members. Stickied comments are now displayed on the app, and the company has added more options to share threads. Finally, the app update brings the usual general user interface improvements and bug fixes.

OnePlus notes that the company has integrated the Feedback tool into the Community app. Users can now report bugs and share logs directly to the company’s bug hunters with the Community app. The procedure to submit a new bug report is to enter the Community app > Profile > Feedback > Click on + icon > Select a category > Fill in the details, attach screenshots if any > Submit. The tool will capture logs based on the category.
If the logs have to be recorded for a longer period for reproducing the issue, users can go to the Community app > Profile > Feedback > Click on + icon > Select a category > Fill in the details, attach screenshots if any > Start recording, and the app will record logs in the background. Once the issue has been reproduced, users can tap the Stop Recording button and then submit the bug report.
Finally, as always, OnePlus notes that users currently running the latest Open Bea will receive the new Open Beta update as an OTA. Users who are interested in trying out OxygenOS Beta ROMs can refer to the flashing instructions and flash the full ROM found on the downloads page here, and this requires a full data wipe. Once users migrate to the Beta path, they will continue to receive Open Beta OTA updates and will stop receiving Official Stable updates. Moving back to the Official OTA path from the Beta path will require a full install and clean flash, which consists of fully wiping the data and cache.
