HTC Officially Launches the HTC U11+: 6″ QHD+, Snapdragon 835, 3,930mAh Battery (Not Coming to U.S.)

We’ve been seeing rumors of the HTC U11+ for a while now with a lot of the specs and features being revealed already. We knew that HTC was working on multiple variants of their HTC U series devices (codenamed Ocean), but it wasn’t until last month that we heard the first rumors about its specs. A few days later HTC started to tease the launch event and even showed a bit of the device on Twitter. Then just days before the official launch we saw both the U11+ and the U11 Life in a leaked hands-on video that began circulating around the internet.

Suffice it to say, HTC has had a difficult time keeping a lid on these two new devices. Rumors are classified as rumors for a reason and should never be considered official though. So today the company formally unveiled these devices with the HTC U11+ being the focus at the event. The new high-end smartphone comes with a 6″ Super LCD panel that HTC has become known for, but this time it joins the 18:9 aspect ratio family with a 2880 x 1440 pixel resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

This is interesting for the company because they have become known for their larger-than-normal bezels for various reasons. It used to be for the BoomSound speakers but even when the HTC 10 dropped that feature, there were some who still wanted the bezels to be slimmer. That’s no longer the case, as with the HTC U11+ as the side bezels are very slim and the top and bottom bezels have been reduced and now fall in line with those of other premium devices.

As we look inside the device we see the Snapdragon 835 SoC from Qualcomm powering the device with your choice of either 4GB of 6GB of RAM. If you opt for the 4GB variant then it will come with 64GB of internal storage while the 6GB version will have 128GB of internal storage. Both versions will come with a microSD card slot though, so you’ll always have the ability to expand the storage capacity if you end up running out of space.

The HTC U11 comes with the same Edge Sense feature that we’ve come to know from HTC lately. Another feature HTC fans are familiar with is a fingerprint sensor, but since the bottom bezel has been slimmed down it had to be moved to the back of the device. They’ve also carried over the support for Amazon Alexa as well and while they don’t have dual front-facing speakers, they’re still boasting the company’s BoomSound audio quality.

The back of the device holds a 12MP UltraPixel 3 camera sensor at f/1.7, 1.4um, and optical image stabilization. The front houses an 8MP f/2.0 camera sensor for those take a lot of selfies. The phone does have IP68 water resistance, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. Speaking of battery charging, the HTC U11+ has a 3,930mAh capacity battery which should satisfy even the most active users.

The phone will launch with Android 8.0 Oreo, but we have yet to be told all of the markets it will be made available in. However, they did specifically come out and say they didn’t have any plans to release the HTC U11+ in the United States. Color options for the new HTC phone includes Ceramic Black, Amazing Silver, and a somewhat transparent color option that will be called Translucent Black. The 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage variant will be priced at £699 in the United Kingdom and €799 in Europe with a November 20th release date.
